The 1" POPULAR EDITION is also labelled
"Contoured Road Map". It is often referred to as the
"Fourth Edition" , though it is never labelled this for
technical reasons.
Between 1919 and 1926, 146 sheets were published
to cover England. Some 24 "Tourist Maps" of
particular areas were also issued.
The move by OS to reach the mass market can be seen by the artistic cover showing a rambler.
